August Redfish Action and a Bonus Tripletail in Tampa Bay

August in Tampa Bay means hot weather and hot fishing. Even with the summer heat, the inshore bite stays strong, and this month we’ve been catching plenty of snook, redfish, and speckled trout on charters. To top it off, we even landed a surprise tripletail, which made the trip even more exciting.

Snook Fishing in August

Snook are still hanging around mangrove shorelines, passes, and creek mouths during August. Early mornings and evenings are the best time to target them before the heat of the day sets in. I fish them with live bait like pinfish and whitebait, and when they’re feeding, the strikes are explosive.

Redfish Fishing in August

Redfish really start to school up this time of year. You’ll find them around grass flats, oyster bars, and mangrove points. I like pitching live pinfish and whitebait in front of tailing reds — watching them crush a bait in shallow water is something every angler should see.

Trout Fishing in August

Speckled trout are a reliable target in the summer and stay active in deeper grass flats and moving water. They’re aggressive, fun on light tackle, and perfect for anglers of all skill levels. A lively pilchard or pinfish will keep rods bending all day.

The Bonus Tripletail

On one of our recent charters, while running between spots, we noticed a tripletail hanging around floating structure. Tripletail are not an everyday catch in Tampa Bay, so spotting one is always a treat. We pitched a live bait right to it, and it ate immediately. After a fun fight, we landed a solid fish that made the day even more memorable.

Why August Fishing is Worth It

August in Tampa Bay might be warm, but the inshore fishing is hot. With snook, redfish, and trout feeding aggressively, and the occasional surprise catch like a tripletail, every trip brings excitement. It’s a great month for anglers looking for action and variety on the water.
